Apple Pie Recipe Made Easy: Giving Thanks From the Heart

This Thanksgiving I am thankful for my family. I am so thankful to have them be a positive role in my life, so I am thanking them by baking them all apple pies! Yes, it’s so easy!!!

This is what you’ll need:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees
  • Pie Crust (I buy the 2deep dish Marie Calendars crusts that are already made. You can buy them at any grocery store. They are so soft and flaky!)
  • Cooking apples (4-6 apples sliced thin)
  • Light brown sugar (1/3 cup firmly packed)
  • Granulated sugar (1/3 cup)
  • Cornstarch (1 tablespoon)
  • Ground cinnamon (1 teaspoon)
  • Ground nutmeg (1/4 teaspoon)
  • Salt (1/4 teaspoon)
  • Butter or margarine (2 tablespoons)

In a small bowl, mix sugars, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.

Peel the skin of the apples and cut them in slices– it doesn’t matter how you slice them, just as long as they are small or thin enough that they aren’t bulging out from the top of the pie.

Place them in a larger bowl

Mix in the apples and sugar mixture

Place pile of apple-sugar mixture into bottom pastry/crust and drop in clumps of butter or margarine onto the top.

Place one another pie crust over the pie crust filled with apple mixture and flatten

Press overhanging edges to seal them together around the edge of the pie

With a sharp paring knife, cut decorative slits on the top of the pastry to allow steam to escape. If you want a crispy top, brush top of pastry with a little milk and sprinkle with some sugar.

Place pie in preheated oven (425 degrees Fahrenheit/220 degrees Celsius ) and bake for 40 minutes. Pie is ready when apples are tender and juice bubbles through slits of top crust. Watch to make sure that the edge of the crust does not brown too early.
